5 Ways to Delight Your Guests
Updated: Apr 2
How do you stand out in the crowd?
The Daytona Beach area is a highly competitive market for vacation rental apartments, condos, and homes. Here are the top five things you can do to delight guests, win a 5-star review, and keep your vacation rental booked throughout the busy season!
Spice Things Up!
Guests are attracted to vacation homes because they feel like a home away from home. But...they don't want to have to spend hundreds of dollars stocking the pantry while they're there. It is important to stock the shelves with the basic items necessary for creating home-cooked meals.
At a minimum, be sure to include salt and pepper, sugar, and vegetable or olive oil. Some vacation rental owners also provide common spices such as basil, chili powder, cinnamon, cloves, cumin, garlic powder, ginger, Italian seasoning, onion powder, poultry seasoning, rosemary, and thyme.
According to VRBO, plenty of guests check in and then immediately check out the safety features of the home. They search out the fire extinguisher, smoke detector, and carbon monoxide detector. Use the welcome booklet or binder to let them know where these safety items can be found and let them know you are diligent in checking the batteries and functionality of each device on a regular basis.
An added bonus would be to ensure extra batteries are available just in case the devices start to lose power while guests are there. There's nothing more annoying than a chirping smoke detector at 3 'o clock in the morning!
But First, Coffee
A common complaint of travelers is that they couldn't make a fresh cup of coffee during their stay because the coffee maker was too complicated to use! In any case, include a short how-to video or check-list to walk guests through the process of brewing a cup or pot of coffee. Don't take for granted that they know how to work a Keurig, French press, or espresso machine.
Where's the WiFi?
One of the first things travelers do upon checking-in to a vacation apartment, condo, or home is connect to the WiFi. Make sure you provide reliable internet and put the password in a conspicuous place...like the front cover of your welcome binder or on a (laminated) note on the refrigerator.
Ever been on vacation and completely forgot to pack your cell phone charger? It happens all the time! A sure way to delight guests is to plan ahead and have charging stations available. There are alarm clocks with USB ports for charging phones. You can even switch out a few outlets for USB charging outlets. That way your guests can take tons of photos of your place and call all their friends to tell them what a delightful vacation they're having!
